In recent years, the Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as a revolutionary technology, promising to transform the way we live, work, and interact with our surroundings. Embarking on the journey of an IoT boot camp is an exciting opportunity to immerse oneself in the world of connected devices and cutting-edge technologies. The HUBiquitous Talent Program boot camp organized by Foundry Camp transformed and equipped participants with the knowledge, skills, and inspiration to dive into the world of IoT.

The Training Phase of the Talent Program is focused on participants exploring and harnessing their newfound expertise and knowledge to create innovative solutions using Waziup technologies. They gained a comprehensive understanding of how the WaziDev boards are used to transmit data to the cloud using the WaziGate. With such knowledge, participants embraced ideation sessions, brainstorming, and refining project concepts that address real-world challenges or offer innovative solutions.

During the Training Phase, participants were put into groups to begin their projects. Weekends were dedicated for them to work on their projects with the support of the trainers.

Now, let’s dive into some of the practical ideas they developed during the program.

One group focused on solving a problem in the health sector, which is one of the several hiccups we face. A health monitoring device for patients in hospitals and elderly care homes. The device checks the blood rate, pulse rate, and body temperature of each patient and displays them on the dashboard, so doctors are alerted almost immediately when there’s a drop or rise in the above-mentioned parameters. Another group’s project was centred on building a smart plug device that identifies behaviour patterns by basically tracking specific times the user turns on or off the plugs. With such data, the device itself can come on or off at those specific times without the user manually turning it on or off. For instance, when the user normally wakes up at 6 a.m. and takes his or her bath at 16:15 a.m., the smart plug automatically turns on the heaters for the bath at around 6 a.m. The smart plug is designed in a way to also be controlled through the dashboard or manual switches, which can overwrite the specific times stored by the behavior patterns.

Building IoT projects is not without challenges. Participants encounter hurdles such as compatibility issues, data management complexities, etc. However, with the support of the instructors, Samuel Maison and Godwin Mensah, they persevere, employing problem-solving skills and exploring innovative solutions to overcome obstacles.

The Training Phase instills the importance of continuous improvement. Participants engage in iterative refinement and gather feedback to enhance functionality, user experience, and performance.
